UEFA Champions League Final, 6 June 2015

6 June 2015

Juventus Turin vs. FC Barcelona (in Berlin, Olympiastadion)

Two teams on the brink of winning a treble met at the Olympiastadion in Berlin for the Champions League decider. Juventus arrived in Berlin on the back of beating Real Madrid in the semifinal, while Barcelona got the better of Bayern München across two legs. Barcelona went on to win the game 3-1,  with goals from Ivan Rakitic, Luis Suarez and Neymar deep into injury time. The solitary goal for Juventus was scored by the young Alvaro Morata.

Despite the fact that Berlin had two major international airports available at the time, Tegel only saw marginal use, but notably for both team charters. The major action took place further South in Schönefeld, where the newly built, but not yet opened Berlin Brandenburg International could be put to good use. The aprons were useful to handle the large number of extra flights arriving from Spain and Italy. Nonetheless, a large number of aircraft had to be flown out for parking purposes. Equally busy on that day were airfields like Schönhagen, some miles outside the city of Berlin or Leipzig-Halle, where large numbers of corporate jets were parked during the game.
